First let us talk about what you DONT need, in California no formal type of license such as an esthetician or cosmotology license

is required to become a PMU (Permanent Makeup Artist). However there are a few things that are required before you can start

your career.

1. As a practitioner you must be 18 years or older with a valid ID.
2. You must have proof of your training and certification.
3. Next you must obtain your Certificate of Bloodborne Pathogen training. Training can often be done online.
4. Obtain a certificate of Hepatitis Vaccination
5. Register for the Body Art Practitioner Annual Registration Application in your county.
6. PMU liability Insurance for Skin Care Professionals (approx 25-$50 a month, not required but recommended).
7. Basic recording tools, supplies, & media creation to market yourself. (DIY or hire)
8. Business registration if looking to create your own brand.

That is everything you need to ge started, it might seem like a lot but it's considerately less elaborate as other professions, and a higher/quicker return

on investment compared to other avenues. Creating a fun fulfilling career in the beauty industry doesn't need to be complicated, and it can allow you to

be your own boss, work for yourself, and grow your income.
